Austin-Healey Sprite Feature of Fall Vintage Festival

Elkhart Lake, Wis., September 11, 2008 -- Road America will host the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association's (VSCDA) Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival, September 19-21, 2008. This year's showcase marque is the Austin- Healey Sprite, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. The car, designed by the Healey Motor Company in partnership with the British Motor Corporation, filled the demand for a fun, easy to maintain, low cost sports car. One of the most notable Sprite models is the original Bugeye with its pod-shaped, hood-mounted headlights. The cost-saving design did not allow for retractable lights, giving the Bugeye its iconic look.

This annual racing weekend regularly attracts nearly 300 vintage and historic racecars of all types for three full days of practice, qualifying, and races. In addition to the Austin-Healey feature race, the cars will run in nine race groups: pre-war, vintage and historic production, vintage and historic sports racing, vintage and historic formula race cars, FIA/WMC prototypes, and historic exhibition.

The VSCDA is an organization of car owners who support vintage racing in safe, friendly competitions where camaraderie on and off the track is the ultimate goal. It holds race weekends at major tracks in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. Participants are afforded ample opportunity for track time and friendly competition via practice and qualifying sessions, sprint races, handicap runs and enduros.

Located midway between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Road America is a 640-acre, year-round motor sports facility. In addition to major race events, Road America offers a motorcycle school, corporate adventure programs, and a karting club.

Admission to the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival is $65 for a three-day ticket, $15 Friday, $25 Saturday and $25 on Sunday. Free parking and pedestrian paddock access with ticket purchase. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by a paid adult. Races run rain or shine. The main gate opens at 7:00 a.m. each day.
