Entries for the 12th Silverstone Historic Festival to be held on the impending bank holiday of August 25/26/27 currently stand at just under 540, which the organisers believe makes it by far the biggest motor race meeting of any kind ever held, anywhere in the world. A British record to savour!

Said Rob Bain, the Chief Executive of Octagon Motorsports, the operators of the Silverstone track, "The Silverstone Historic Festival has long since been the world's premier historic race meeting, but for entries to surpass those of all previous motor racing events worldwide, irrespective of type, is quite extraordinary. It says much about the popularity of historic racing generally and Silverstone as a venue, and can only make for a truly memorable event."

At a time when grids for modern racing cars sometimes languish in single figures, Silverstone can boast that no less than 12 of the 18 track races will sport full grids of 44 cars, while none of the remaining six will have less than 30. The racing is bound to be fast, furious and not to be missed!

Grand Prix Cars, Group C Cars, Sports Cars, Touring Cars, Formula Fords, Formula Juniors, World Endurance Cars - the very best of racing cars from the 1920s to the 1980s will be doing battle throughout the weekend. As will a host of classic motorcycles that are making their debut at this ever-popular meeting and both modern and historic cars in the RallySprint.

Add a plethora of motor club displays, a Bonhams & Brooks Collectors' car auction, over 300 classic cars from the Footman James Silverstone RetroRun, air displays, a vast array of hot air balloons, automobilia, motoring art and photography etc and you have a giant event with something to excite every member of the family.

There will be the opportunity for celebrity autographs too, and spectators should keep an eye open for guest appearances from the likes of former World Motor Racing Champions Nigel Mansell OBE and Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, who will be taking part on the Sunday and Monday respectively.
