March 7 - Argentine road racer Domingo Bucci dies from injuries suffered two days earlier in the Arrecifes Road Race in Argentina (1933).

March 8 - Kirk Shelmerdine born (1958).

March 9 - President Juan Peron dedicates the new Buenos Aires Autodrome. 40,000 spectators watch Juan Manuel Fangio win the non-points Argentine Grand Prix (1952).

- F1 and Indycar driver Teo Fabi born (1955).

March 10 - David Kudrave born (1966).

- Ferrari 312T makes its race debut in the South African GP, with Niki Lauda finishing fifth and Clay Regazzoni sixteenth (1975).

- Damon Hill wins the Australian GP in a Williams. His teammate, Jacques Villenueve, is second in his F1 debut (1996).

March 11 - Ferrari 212 F1 car makes its race debut in Sicily at the Siracusa Grand Prix (1951).

- Racer and broadcaster Derek Daly born (1953).

- Gordon Johncock wins the first race staged by CART, at Phoenix, Arizona, USA (1979).

March 12 - Indycar and NASCAR stockcar driver John Andretti, nephew of Mario Andretti, born (1963).

March 13 - Richard Petty wins the NASCAR Carolina 500 (1983).
