May 18
Kenji Okazaki of Japan wins the Funny Car finals and 18 year old
highschool girl Christen Powell wins the Top Fuel final at the NHRA
Mopar Nationals in Englishtown, New Jersey, USA. First NHRA Nationals
win for both (1997).
May 19
Jo Siffert and Vic Elford drive a Porsche 908 to victory in the 1000 km
sports car race on the Nurburgring in Germany (1968).
May 20
Sports car racer Bob Grossman dies of multiple myeloma at age 79 (2002).
May 21
Only five prototypes are entered in the Targa Florio road race in
Sicily. Arturo Merzario and Sandro Munari drive the lone Ferrari 312PB
to victory over a quartet of Alfa Romeo T33TT3s (1972).
May 22
Luigi Fagioli drives a Mercedes-Benz W25 to victory in the Monaco Grand
Prix. He is the first driver to lead at Monaco from flag to flag (1935).
