Walt Hansgen wins the SCCA National sports car race at Bridehampton, New
York, USA, driving a Maserati Tipo 61 (1961).
May 29
Nine-time Isle of Man TT motorcycle race winner David Jeffries dies in a
practice accident on the Isle (2003).
May 30
Jimmy Murphy drives the Miller-powered Dusenberg chassis that he won the
1921 French Grand Prix with to victory in the Indianapolis 500. First Indy
win for a driver starting on the pole. First win for a Miller designed
engine. Eight of the top-ten finishers are Duesenbergs (1922).
May 31
Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens drive a Porsche 908/3 to victory in the 1000km
endurance race on the Nurburgring in West Germany (1970).

Derick Bell, Hans Stuck, and Al Holbert drive a Rothmans Porsche 962 to
victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jo Gartner dies in an accident during
