SVRA Vintage Sports Cars Returning to VIR

DANVILLE, VA -- VIR brings back sports car road racing the way it was in the "good old days" this weekend with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association's VIR Fall Festival, September 27-28..

Combining the thunder of historic stock cars, the scream of sports racers and the beauty of cars from the early days of sports car racing in America, this weekend has already attracted over 200 entries from all across the spectrum. Entries include a McLaren Can-Am car, a classic-era 1928 Frazer-Nash, a Lister-Jaguar from 1959 and a broad collection of Porsches, BMWs, MGs, Nissans, Lotuses, Corvettes and a whole group dedicated to historic stock cars. Joining all these cars are a variety of open-wheeled formula cars, powered by everything from a VW Beetle engine to three-liter F1 engines to the Formula 5000 V8s.

The bonus for the weekend is the Reunion for IMSA RS cars and Trans-Am 2.5 Challenge cars that raced here in the heyday decades of the '60s and '70s. Stars of the era are scheduled to attend, including IMSA champions Amos Johnson and Dennis Shaw, of Team Highball fame, plus possibly Nick Craw, Jim Downing, Roger Mandeville, and more.

Whether your favorite is a sedan or a formula car, a sports racer or a production car, the SVRA Fall Festival brings it all together. Tickets are available at the gate, so don't miss this chance to see and hear the sounds of the past. The paddock is open to the public too, letting everyone get a close-up look at their favorite cars.
