Watkins Glen welcomed the start of the annual Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix today with practice for all groups, including the much anticipated class of nearly forty vintage Formula One cars.
Many of Friday's activities revolve around the celebrated IKEPOD Grand Prix Festival in the village of Watkins Glen. As part of the Grand Prix Festival, most of the participants from the Zippo event bring their vintage race cars down the hill for the annual race re-enactment held on the original 6.6-mile course that runs through the village.
On hand for the start of today's activities was three-time World Champion and F1 legend, Sir Jack Brabham. Brabham is the Grand Marshal for this weekend and will give the command to start engines for Sunday's New York Governor's Cup that features the Formula One field.
Tomorrow's schedule at the track includes more practice, qualifying and a special Lotus Clash honoring the featured Lotus marque for the weekend. The Lotus Clash is scheduled to start immediately after lunch at 1:10 p.m.
Tickets for the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix are still available. For ticket, camping, or additional information, contact the Watkins Glen ticket office
