Watkins Glen, NY (September 2, 2003) - One of the most well-respected and highly-anticipated vintage events in the United States, the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, has hit another milestone. In excess of 450 entries are expected for this weekend's event, making it the year's largest vintage racing event in America.

This unique weekend will combine the best in vintage racing on the 3.37-mile road course in the home of American Road Racing with a special tribute to racing legend Mark Donohue, an American Muscle Car feature, an Antique Auto Show with more than 300 participants and motorsports vendors and displays. A large contingent of GTP cars is also expected, with the number of entries currently at 20.

"We have been running this event since 1985 and it has continued to grow," track President Craig Rust said. "Watkins Glen is the home of American Road Racing and as the face of the sport continues to change, it's important to keep the tradition of years past alive and this event allows us to do just that."

At least 25 race cars that Mark Donohue made legendary are also expected to be on hand, including his first car, a 1961 Elva Courier, his 1974 Penske PC1 Ford, which was the first Formula One Car built by Penske Racing, and the 1973 AMC Matador, on loan to us from the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum at Talladega Superspeedway. A lapping exhibition by the Donohue Reunion cars are scheduled for Saturday at 12:55 p.m. and again on Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

History comes alive as the magnificent cars from racing past roll into Watkins Glen for a weekend honoring racing's heritage in the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, September 5-7, sanctioned by the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association. Take a stroll through the Antique Auto Show, or walk through the garage and paddock as we feature the American Muscle Car. Then, help us pay tribute to one of racing's greatest drivers, Mark Donohue, as we host a special reunion of the cars that he made legendary. Tickets for the event start at $30.

Tickets for the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International are still available and can be purchased by calling The Glen's ticket office at 607-535-2481 or online at www.theglen.com. For the finest Watkins Glen International items and apparel, motorsports collectibles, and authentic NASCAR merchandise, diecasts and clothing, stop by The Shop at 2 North Franklin Street in Watkins Glen or call 607-535-2338.
