Craft-Bamboo Racing heads home to Asia

Craft-Bamboo Racing’s FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) campaign will head to Asia this weekend (10-12 October) for the Six Hours of Fuji and the team is looking to build on its strong start to the second half of the year.

The team, which has offices in Hong Kong and Malaysia, has been looking forward to racing its Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE on its home continent and heads to Japan with confidence following great lap times at the Circuit of the Americas last month.

Hopefully, this year we can have some proper racing and continue to make progress in our car.

“Although the final result didn’t show it, we had a very good race weekend in America,” comments Aston Martin Racing works driver Darryl O’Young (HK). “Fernando [Rees] did a great job to set the fastest GTE time of free practice two and the team gave us a really well set-up car – the best is still yet to come out of all of us.”

O’Young (HK) will once again be joined in the Interush-liveried car by team-mates Alex MacDowall (GB) and Fernando Rees (BR), in what will be the fifth WEC race for the team that was formed when Asian team Craft Racing and British-based team Bamboo Engineering merged earlier this year.

“We’re now in the mid-point in the year and it’s been a real learning curve,” commented MacDowall. “We jumped in at the deep end of GT racing and always knew it would be tough but it’s good to see that we are already mixing it up with some of the teams that are in their third season. I’m looking forward to Japan, I hear it’s a great track.”

The Six Hours of Fuji takes place at the Fuji International Speedway. The 4.6km long track at the base of mount Fuji is well known for its 1.5km long straight, one of the longest in any motorsport circuit.

“I raced here last year and things went great - we qualified in second place and I really liked the track - but the rain was so torrential that we only completed 16 race laps and they were all behind the safety car,” commented Rees. “Hopefully, this year we can have some proper racing and continue to make progress in our car. Japan is a fantastic place and I’m looking forward to returning.”

The Six Hours of Fuji starts at 1100 local time on Sunday 12 October.
