Webber's benchmark time of 1m40.997s came early on in the 90-minute session, the Australian lapping seven tenths faster than the best time in first practice in the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid.

It wasn't all plain sailing for the reigning champion squad however, as the #2 car - with Romain Dumas at the wheel - went into the barriers at Turn 1 after a brake disc failure.

The car had suffered visible damage to the floor as it was craned away, and did not re-emerge for the rest of the session.

An early effort of 1m41.011s by Marcel Fassler was good enough for the #7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro to finish second quickest, 0.125s clear of the sister #8 car piloted by Oliver Jarvis.

Toyota managed the fourth best time courtesy of Stephane Sarrazin in the #6 TS050 Hybrid, ahead of the stricken #2 Porsche and the #5 Toyota of Anthony Davidson.

The #13 Rebellion R-One was again the quickest of the LMP1-L contingent, 5.793s off the pace.

G-Drive Racing maintained its advantage at the head of the LMP2 pack, as Rene Rast set the benchmark time of 1m48.965s to go over a second clear of the opposition.

WEC newcomer Lewis Williamson put the #42 Strakka Gibson second, two tenths up on the #45 Manor Oreca of Roberto Merhi.

The #36 Signatech Alpine, having failed to set a time in first practice after the car's early off, was fourth fastest in the hands of Stephane Richelmi.

In GTE-Pro, Aston Martin's Darren Turner set the pace with a 1m56.908s in the #97 car, beating the #51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 of Gianmaria Bruni by 0.074s.

Ford again struggled to match the pace of the Aston Martins and Ferraris, ending up fifth and sixth in class, as was the case in first practice.

Emmanuel Collard set the quickest time in the GTE-Am class aboard the #83 AF Corse Ferrari with a best time of 1m59.200s.
