The 24-year-old Briton was orignally signed only for the first three rounds of the WEC campaign at Silverstone, Spa and Le Mans, joining Andy Priaulx and Marino Franchitti in the #67 Ford GT.

However, Ford has now invited Tincknell to remain part of the crew for the remainder of the season, starting with this month's 6 Hours of Nurburgring.

He will dovetail this with his existing European Le Mans Series commitments, where he partners Simon Dolan and Giedo van der Garde in an LMP2 class G-Drive Racing Gibson-Nissan.

“I am massively excited now to have the opportunity to complete the WEC with Ford this year," said Tincknell.

"Since I moved across from single-seaters to endurance racing in 2014, it’s always been my ambition to compete full time in the WEC. Additionally, it’s incredible that my first full WEC season will have been with the factory Ford team.

"I’ve now got a very busy end to 2016 what with the final four races in the European Le Mans Series, plus six WEC races.

"I naturally must thank Nissan for allowing me to complete the WEC season, and I am fully focused in attempting to claim the ELMS title for them competing in the Nissan-powered Gibson.”

The #66 car meanwhile is expected to continue with only Olivier Pla and Stefan Mucke driving, as Billy Johnson, who appeared in the first three WEC rounds, switches his sole focus to the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series.
