Ahead of the 2019 Le Mans 24 Hours, the ACO outlined further details of the new Hypercar regulations slated for the 2020/21 World Endurance Championship season.

Within hours, Toyota and Aston Martin announced their plans to join the new category.

Gary Watkins has followed the WEC's long journey to its next era and tells Jack Cozens why the Hypercars commitment is a "sigh of relief" for the championship.
