Bristol Friday Preliminary Feature

(BRISTOL, Tenn. – June 9, 2000) – Defending Pennzoil World of Outlaws champion Mark Kinser, driver of the Mopar Peformance Parts Maxim, powered his way to victory lane during the inaugural Channellock Challenge preliminary feature at Bristol Motor Speedway Friday night.

Kinser took advantage of early leader Sammy Swindell's tire problems and passed the World of Outlaw regular on a lap-16 restart. Swindell cut a right-rear tire following a lap-15 incident.

"I saw (runner-up) Donny Schatz right at the end, but this Mopar powerplant was really strong tonight," said Kinser, who bagged his sixth feature of the season. "The track was pretty racy at the end. It started out as a one-groove track, but it became a multi-grove track as the night proceeded."

Kinser, who started on the outside of the second row after nabbing the runner-up slot in the second Channellock Dash, completed a breathtaking move on the inside of Danny Wood and Swindell to take second on the opening lap.

With Kinser chasing Tyler Walker for the lead, Dean Jacobs brought out the night's first caution with a spectacular flip in turn two. On the lap-three restart, third-place Swindell drove underneath Kinser and Walker and nabbed the point.

Swindell led the balance of the race until tangling with Darryn Pittman on lap 15. Kinser bolted underneath Swindell on the lap-16 restart and never looked back.

"We stumbled onto to stuff that just didn't work that well over the winter," Kinser said. "We were fortunate to have this Mopar horsepower to carry us through our poor setups. We have finally figured it out."

The Mopar Performance Parts standout was the 10th-quickest qualifier with a 14.29-second lap at 134.27 mph and dominated the second heat in a wire-to-wire run.
