CBS Sports to Televise World of Outlaws' Eldora Event PLANO, TX (May 13) - The World of Outlaws, which has already scheduled more television exposure this year than in its first 18 years combined, has reached an agreement with CBS Sports and World Sports Enterprises to televise its June 15th event from Eldora Speedway. The announcement, made jointly by World of Outlaws President Ted Johnson and World Sports Enterprises President Patti Wheeler Monday, calls for the Saturday-night races to be taped and aired during the CBS Sports Show between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, June 16th. "We're very pleased to have CBS Sports do this 24-hour, tape- delayed telecast," Johnson said. "We hope it will be the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship with the network. "With the live shows we're going to have on TNN, the World of Outlaws and sprint car racing are taking tremendous steps this year." CBS Sports announcers Ken Squier and Dr. Dick Berggren will describe the action. Squier has been the voice of Daytona 500 for more than 25 years, while Berggren is the editor of Stock Car Racing and Open Wheel magazines. Eric Mann of CBS Sports will be the producer of the telecast. The World of Outlaws was also responsible for securing live coverage of the Amoco Knoxville Nationals on TNN: The Nashville Network last August. The World of Outlaws' growing relationship with TNN has also enabled the series to secure sanctioning rights to Eldora's $50,000- to-win King's Royal event, which is scheduled for July 19-20. The King's Royal is just one of three World of Outlaws events TNN will televise live in 1996. The cable network is also scheduled to air the May 24-25 races from Williams Grove Speedway and the Amoco Knoxville Nationals August 14-17. In each case, the preliminary races will be tape-delayed, while the feature program will be aired on a live basis. The time slot for the tape-delayed and live shows will be 10 p.m. to midnight (EDT).
