Dominic Scelzi to start World of Outlaws in Vegas

Dominic Scelzi is set to make his sprint car season debut this week against extraordinary circumstances.

Driving with an alliance with Roth Motorsports this season, Scelzi will tackle his first-ever half-mile track when he competes with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas on Wednesday and Thursday.

"This will be my first time in Vegas," he said. "It's actually my first time on a half mile. I expect it to be quite a bit faster and you're going to have to run the car pretty straight. I'm going to talk to a couple of drivers about what they do and pick their brains to get some different styles. In hot laps I'll try the different techniques and whatever I find that's closest to my style I'll tweak that until I'm comfortable."

Scelzi, whose best career World of Outlaws finish is 17th, said his goals for the weekend are simple.

"I would be absolutely thrilled if we could make and finish both main events," he said. "That'd be an awesome experience. I feel like those will be difficult goals, but are realistic."

The reigning 410 Rookie of the Year as named by the North American 410 Sprint Car Poll voting panel of media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and manufacturers, Scelzi has high expectations for this season as he goes after the King of the West Sprint Car Series championship.

"This is going to be a really good season for me," he said. "I really have a lot of high hopes going into the season. My main focus for the Outlaw races is to get a lot of laps under my belt and learn as much as I can from those experienced drivers. Then I can hopefully take that experience and confidence into the King of the West season."

Fans can watch Scelzi and the World of Outlaws at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas via live Pay-Per-View on Wednesday and Thursday. For more information, visit http://www.DIRTVision.com.
