Meyers Looks to leave Charlotte as World of Outlaws Royalty

Charlotte, North Carolina has many nicknames, but the one that is most fitting especially next weekend is "Crown Town." On Saturday night November 6, the 2010 World of Outlaws champion will be crowned. Before that can happen, Jason Meyers and his fellow competitors have to make it through one night of qualifying on Thursday, November 4 and two nights of racing action on the following two evenings in an event simply known as The World of Outlaws World Finals.

Going into the World Finals Meyers has a 96 point lead over his nearest competitor. After finishing second in the point standings, three times in his career (2005, 2008, and 2009) Meyers is poised to take that final step to win the championship. In a season that has seen several drivers atop the standings in one of the tightest point races, Meyers has led the points more than once. After holding onto the lead early in the season, Meyers used the momentum from his Gold Cup victory to retake the lead. Since then "Hot Foot" has gradually added points each time he entered the track until Meyers has two races and 96 points to his advantage. In order to clinch the title, Meyers has to finish 21st both nights if Schatz gets the maximum points possible each night.

Meyers has had a strong showing at Charlotte in the past. The Californian made history by winning the first-ever A-Feature during the inaugural edition of the World Finals in 2007. "Hot Foot" has finished eighth or better in all six of the main events held during World Final weekends. In Meyer's career at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, he has won twice, collected 12 top-10 finishes with seven top-five finishes. In his last nine starts in Charlotte, Meyers has finished ninth or better. In his last eight finishes in Charlotte, Meyers has averaged a 3.6 finish in his #14 GLR Investments KPC.

"It's been a great event since they put it together down in Charlotte and I've always enjoyed it. Every year the race track has been good and the racing has been good. We're looking forward to going down there again this year and with them adding the Big Block Modifieds this year, I'm anxious to see what that will do to the race track. It should be a packed house again this year and a great race. Charlotte is a big horsepower track, but you have to get your car to roll around there as well. It's a little bit different than any other track we go to and we've had a good car down there the last few years. You have to be able to roll the corner there and be able to get the horsepower to the ground. We're really looking forward to heading over there."

"Our goal is to go out there and win at least one of the races in Charlotte and put an exclamation point on the season," Meyers shared. "We have been able to do that the last couple of years and we have always enjoyed racing down there. We have been working hard these two weeks for this. We are going to go hard through the end of the year. That is what got us to this point and that is how we are going to finish it. We are going to go down there and put a show on for the fans and end the season on a high note."

"It's been a great season overall," Meyers said. "It has been kind of up and down. In some ways this has been the best season ever and in other ways it has not been. The highs have been really high and the lows have been really low. We had ten wins this season which is the highest so far in my career and to be leading the points is a great feeling. We need to go into Charlotte and have two consistent runs and win our first championship. It has been a tough year, but so far our hard work has paid off. We kept our heads up during the tough times and everyone has been very resilient. Championships are not easy to win and being able to fight through everything has put us where we are today."
