In a New York State of Mind: Meyers rolls to third place finish in the Empire State

Running for a World of Outlaws championship not only takes speed and focus, it takes a special state of mind. This weekend Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing team were focused on Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York. With just four battles left to decide the 2010 crown, Meyers used Charlie Garrett horsepower and his knowledge of the 5/8ths-mile track, where he already had 5 top-10 finishes, to capture a podium finish.

Meyers began his evening at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park by qualifying 4th and gaining extra championship points. From there Meyers went on to win both his heat race and the dash, which gave him the pole position for Saturday night's 25 lap feature event that would run green-to checkered without a single incident.

When the Green Flag flew initially, Meyers jumped out to the lead, but coming out of Turn 2 Kraig Kiser would get to his outside and ride the cushion into the lead. Kraig Kinser held the lead with Meyers in his #14 GLR Investments KPC on his tail as the duo quickly encountered traffic. In traffic, Steve Kinser was able to close on Meyers. The Californian held off the first two runs from the 11 car, but on Lap 9 "The King" would use lapped traffic to his advantage to take the third position away from "Hot Foot."

Meyers would hold strong in the third position as the father and son battled in front of him. Once Steve got past Kraig on Lap 17, Meyers quickly closed on the 11k and took back the second position. Behind the Californian, Donny Schatz was closing with just five laps left.

On Lap 20, Schatz would get to the outside of Meyers and take the runner-up spot away. "Hot Foot" stayed close in the tire tracks of the #15 car, but would have to settle for third place. Steve Kinser went on to take the victory. Currently Meyers leads the World of Outlaw point standings by 98 markers over Steve Kinser with just three races to go.

"I enjoy races like that," Meyers said. "I think it shows you who saves their cars until the end. I really enjoy going from green to checkers. I think it shows you who really has the whole package. There are two ways to look at tonight, but we are disappointed. We had a good car and I was a little too loose early in the race and really started to come on later in the going, but it was too little too late. We have the big picture in mind though. While we are disappointed with tonight, we are thinking about the big picture and it was a good solid night. I would have liked to have put a couple of points on those guys, but instead they put a couple on us. That's ok. We'll keep digging and we have three (races) to go. We'll keep doing what we are doing and hopefully take this championship to California."

After being postponed due to rain earlier this season, Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing team will be traveling back to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstaudt, Indiana on Saturday night October 16. Then after almost a two week break, the World of Outlaws title will be decided at the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway on November 4-6.
