Forbrook Hires Shepard to Race With Outlaws

MORGAN, MN (January 16) -- Guy Forbrook has hired Jeff Shepard to drive his #5 Wirtgen Maxim with the World of Outlaws in 2001.

"I think Jeff's the right person for the job," Forbrook said. "I'm looking forward to this year."

Shepard drove the #4J Double L Racing Maxim into third place in the World of Outlaws Gumout Series standings last season.

"I'm excited about this opportunity," Shepard said. "It's one of the few times in my career I'll get to be just a driver and I'm looking forward to that role. I just want to drive the wheels off the race car.

"I'm looking forward to driving for Guy. He knows what to do and he has the equipment to win. That should make it a lot easier for me. I think you'll see a big change in me as a driver."

Forbrook managed the Millennium Racing team owned by the Vasser family in 2000. Greg Hodnett left the team during the off-season to drive the #12 Apple Motorsports car in Pennsylvania.

Forbrook said he will own the team unless Millennium Racing gets a corporate sponsor before the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series opens at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA, February 23rd. Forbrook also said "Millennium Racing will be a big part of what's going on" even if it is unable to secure more corporate sponsorship. If Forbrook owns the team, it will be sponsored by Wirtgen America and the Jackpot Junction Casino.

"We're going to start the season with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series," Forbrook said. "We will run the entire schedule if we get another sponsor by April 1st. Otherwise, we'll run the Gumout Series.

"I'm going to back to the #5 and run Maxim cars, Gaerte engines and Goodyear tires. The #5 is alive again."
