Becca Anderson Set to Thunder Into Grandview Speedway With the World of Outlaws

Norman, OK -- May 4, 2006 -- Becca Anderson is getting used to going to new racetracks and learning more of the intricacies of running a full season with the World of Outlaws Sprint Series now that she's been on the road for a good portion of the past three months.

At the same time, she can't wait for a return to her stomping grounds on the East Coast, especially May 16 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa. A Mean 15 driver from Houston, Del., Anderson has experience on the tight 1/3-mile oval and returns with the World of Outlaws as part of the extremely popular Thunder on the Hill Series.

"It's nice to go home and have fans there," said Anderson, who drives the No. 19 Mike Woodring-owned JEI. "I'll tell you what, though, everywhere we have been we have been treated very well, even though I am not very well known in the West. It will be a plus to go home and see some familiar faces."

Anderson, who is in her first full season of racing 410-sprint cars with the World of Outlaws, has 13 careers wins in 360s with the United Racing Company and the Empire Super Sprints as well as success in 358 sprinters, as well. On the URC trail, she has eight wins, including the ESS/URC Challenge at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y., where the World of Outlaws will compete on May 30. She knows horsepower is important on the World of Outlaws circuit, but she believes she can bridge the gap with more seat time and experience.

"Heading home to Pennsylvania and Grandview, a smaller track, which is kind of my style of track, is what I like," said Anderson, the only woman racing winged sprint cars at this level. "It will definitely be a plus. I think things are in our favor there. It fits into our situation right and our motor program. Flat out, or on-and-off the gas, it doesn't matter to me. Any kind of racing is good."

On April 15 at Tri-State Speedway, a high-banked ultra-fast quarter-mile in Haubstadt, Ind., Anderson recorded her first top-10 of the season. Grandview is a little bigger than Tri-State, measuring about one-third of a mile around.

Three consecutive rainouts have been frustrating for Anderson and the team but with the schedule picking up they are more than prepared to compete with the best sprint car drivers in the world at some of the fastest and toughest dirt tracks from coast to coast. The days off thanks to Mother Nature allowed the team to make sure the cars are impeccably maintained and that Anderson has had plenty of time to keep with her fitness program.

"At this time of the year you hate rainouts, but in the middle of the summer when you are racing four or five nights a week you want them, but they're not going to come," Anderson said. "Right now it's kind of a downer, but you take it as it comes."

Invading Pennsylvania also means the Outlaws will battle with the vaunted Pennsylvania Posse. This rivalry always stirs the pot between drivers, crews, fans and everybody else attending the races. Anderson has plenty of laps out East in the past and knows what it takes to run with the Posse.

"You have to be on your 'A Game' every night out here with the Outlaws," Anderson said. "Then when you go to Pennsylvania you put another 10 guys in the mix, so you really have to be up on it. You have to have your whole program going in the right direction. It's going to be two weeks with your work cut out for you."

A graduate of the micro-sprints ranks, Anderson looks forward to every race, knowing the more experience she gets with the World of Outlaws the closer she will be to picking up her first win in a 410-sprint car. She currently is competing for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award Presented by Maxim Racing and ButlerBuilt.

After the checkered flag flies at Grandview, Anderson and the rest of the Mean 15 will head to the western end of the Keystone State for the Commonwealth Clash May 19 at Lernerville Speedway that sets the stage for the $50,000 Challenge on May 20 at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, where the winner at Lernerville has a chance at the monster bonus and a potential $70,000 for sweeping the entire weekend.
