BRISTOL, IN (January 4) -- Paul McMahan, the runner-up in the
World of Outlaws Gumout Series standings in 2000, will race with the
Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series this season.
"We're excited to be back," McMahan said Thursday. "Growing up,
all I wanted to do was race with the Outlaws. Warren Johnson has given
me the opportunity. He has given me great race cars and Mike Cool, who
is a great mechanic. We had a good season last year with the Gumout
Series, and we're looking forward to racing with the Pennzoil World of
Outlaws Series this year."
McMahan ranked second behind Donny Schatz in the 1997 Pennzoil
World of Outlaws Series Rookie of the Year race and finished 13th in
the overall point standings. Last season, the transplanted Californian
drove Johnson's #U2 United Expressline Eagle to victory in three of
four September features to pass Jeff Shepard for second place in the
Gumout Series standings. Craig Dollansky won the inaugural Gumout
Series championship.
"Warren always wanted to race with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws
Series," McMahan said. "We weren't prepared to do the whole tour last
year, so we built some confidence racing with the Gumout Series. That
helped us get ready for the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series.
"We still have Eagle Chassis and Gaerte Engines and the same
sponsors. Everything is the same; we just have more of it now."
