Meyers to Drive Eagle Raceway Sprinter

EAGLE, NE (March 14) -- Jason Meyers could be the first driver in World of Outlaws history to earn Rookie of the Year honors in successive seasons. It sounds strange, but it's a possibility.

Meyers, the Rookie of the Year in the World of Outlaws Gumout Series' inaugural season, is the new driver of Craig Cormack's #20 Eagle Raceway Eagle. Meyers, who ranks 16th in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series point standings, is racing well enough to earn the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year award at the end of the season.

"We're putting Jason Meyers in the car," Cormack said Wednesday after Johnny Herrera left the team following two full seasons. "We struggled at the end of last year and this season, so Johnny and I decided to part ways. We're actively seeking sponsorship and would like to continue racing with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series."

Meyers, who opened the season in his family's #14 Don Berry Construction Maxim and drove Junior Holbrook's #8H Eagle in the O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway, is elated to join the Eagle Raceway team.

"The most exciting thing that's ever happened to me," Meyers said. "I'm sorry to jump from Junior's team so quickly, but that was a temporary deal. We had an open-door agreement and I took the open door to Craig Cormack's team.

"To join this team here is great for me. This has the capability to be one of the best teams with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series. Davey Whitworth is a very capable mechanic and having the support of Craig and Linda Cormack should help accelerate my career. The best thing is that there is a good team concept here. Davey, Tyler Swank and Mike Long work well together and I also brought my younger brother with me -- Darren Carter -- so we'll have a strong team. This is a great opportunity for me. I'm ready to run the rest of the year with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series."

Whitworth is pleased to have Meyers drive the #20 Eagle Raceway Eagle.

"We've watched Jason race in California and with the Gumout Series, and we've always been impressed with him," Whitworth said. "He's a strong, young talent."

Meyers, who started on the front row in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' first two feature races this season, raced into 10th place in the J.D. Byrider Silver State Shootout at Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 4th.
