Nicknames Abound in Pennzoil World of Outlaws

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 17, 2000) - Nicknames often reveal how popular particular sports are with the fans. In the case of the Pennzoil World of Outlaws sprint car series, things must really be jammin'.

Drivers' nicknames will fill the air Thursday and Friday, March 30-31 when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws drivers inaugurate Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in the Southern Bleacher Classic. Even America's newest short track already has a nickname.

Series announcer Johnny Gibson will treat the circuit's largest crowd of this season to nickname after nickname in his call of the evening's events. Names such as "The King," (Steve Kinser), "The Dude" (Danny Lasoski) "Wild Child" (point leader Jac Haudenschild), "Slammin' Sammy" (Sammy Swindell) and "The Hurricane" (Randy Hannigan) will provide an element of color to the program.

The state-of-the-art facility has acquired its own nickname, even prior to hosting its first crowd. Some are already calling Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track "The Superspeedway of Dirt."

More than $100,000 will be on the line when the world's premier sprint car drivers take to the 4/10-mile banked clay oval. Lasoski will be seeking his second straight Pennzoil WoO triumph in Texas after winning top honors at Devil's Bowl in Mesquite March 11. The Friday night final at Texas Motor Speedway is worth $20,000 to win.

Speedway officials have just placed an additional 3,000 bleacher seats on sale to accommodate the race crowd.
