Lasoski Charges to Circuit City Shootout Victory By Richard Day GREENWOOD, NE (September 23) -- The Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series ran three $20,000-to-win, triple-program events in the first four weeks of September and Danny Lasoski won them all. "It's good to win in front of these Nebraska fans and in Phil Durst country," Lasoski said after leading the final 29 laps in the Circuit City Shootout at I-80 Speedway Saturday. "Phil helps me and Mark (Kinser) quite a bit. My guys know I'm buying bricks for my new house, so these ($20,000 victories) help a lot." "The Dude" built his winning foundation in the preliminary programs, scoring the most points without a Preliminary Feature victory. He passed Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series points leader Steve Kinser with a daring move between turns one and two early in the second lap and held off Mark Kinser for his ninth victory of the year. "That (lapped traffic) was pretty much it tonight," Lasoski said. "Mark did a great job. He made me work my butt off to win this one, but this Beef Packers Eagle Chassis with that Wesmar motor did the job tonight. It got pretty tight there with a couple (of laps) to go. I wasn't sure how I was going to get through there, but we made it." Mark Kinser was threatening to take lead in dense lapped traffic late in the race when "The Dude" passed three lapped cars racing three-abreast and took the low line through the fourth corner to pass Tim Shaffer to increase his advantage. "He was really tough," Mark said of Lasoski. "We got around him a couple of times. I tired to take his line, but I missed mine and he got back by me. He set a good pace, especially in lapped traffic. One time, I think he passed four cars on one straightaway. I had to pick them off one at a time to reel him in." TNN Sports provided live coverage of the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' 53rd feature racing program of the season. Lasoski started the CHANNELLOCK Dash on the pole, but was put on the second row when he jumped the original start. He earned the front row outside starting position by edging Donny Schatz for second place in the six-lap dash. "The Dude" raced into the lead in the first corner as the green flag flew in the 30-lap main event, only to have Brad Furr spin out of sixth place in turn two. Pole-sitter Steve Kinser Kinser beat Lasoski down the front stretch on the second start, but Brian Paulus' flat left rear tire and Daryn Pittman's first-corner spin brought out the caution flag again. "The King of the Outlaws" burst into the lead again when the race resumed. Lasoski challenged him throughout the opening lap and bumped him slightly while taking over first place with an inside move between turns one and two. Kinser was threatening to regain the lead early in lap five when the quick-change gears in his #11 Quaker State Maxim broke. His crew replaced the gears quickly, and Kinser restarted at the rear of the field following a sixth-lap caution period. Schatz was gaining on the leaders the next time around when the #15 Parker Stores J&J spun in the fourth corner. Greg Hodnett hit him, turning Schatz over, and Paulus collided with him and flipped. Mark Kinser maintained Lasoski's fast pace when the green flag replaced the red and passed him low between the first and second corners early in lap 13. "The Dude" regained the lead with a high move in turn three several seconds later, however. Lasoski was .4 seconds ahead of Kinser when they entered lapped traffic the next time around. Dean Jacobs opened the track ahead of the leaders with a fourth-corner spin late in the 16th lap. Stevie Smith took the high line into turn four to pass both Sammy Swindell and Joey Saldana to claim fourth place as the race resumed. Kinser steered the #5M Mopar Maxim deep into turn one to pass "The Dude" again early in lap 19, only to lose the lead again in the fourth corner. Lasoski caught the backmarkers with a .5-second advantage with 6 1/2 laps remaining and took the checkered flag with 1.4 seconds to spare. "We ran a soft tire," Lasoski said. "I knew if I kept the car nice and straight, we'd be fine. I race better with softer tires. "Dennis Roth put a great team together here and these Beef Packers guys never gave up. The Hoosier tires worked great, Bob Wesphal built us a new engine and these new Super Shocks kept the car on the ground. We couldn't do without any of these guys. We couldn't be any happier." Andy Hillenburg finished in third place, ahead of 14th-starting Sammy Swindell, Smith, Craig Dollansky, "B" Feature winner Dale Blaney, Jac Haudenschild, Paul McMahan and First NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race winner Joey Saldana. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series will invade the northeast for the third time this season, starting Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway. "The greatest show on dirt" will race at Hagerstown Speedway Thursday, before sanctioning the 38th Annual Williams Grove National Open Friday and Saturday. WoO
