Defending I-55 Winner Jason Meyers: Pevely a Cage Fight!
Fans won't want to miss autograph session, great racing at World of Outlaws event at I-55 Raceway this Saturday

PEVELY, Mo. -- How good is the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at I-55 Raceway?

"Pevely is kind of the martial-arts cage fighting of motorsports!" said defending race winner Jason Meyers. "Pevely is one heck of a bullring. You get very high speeds on a very small track and things are just happening. If you look back at the records and see the passes for the lead there, the number has got to be staggering."

Last year, the Clovis, Calif., native earned victories in four of his first eight races, including Pevely. While he has only one so far in 2009, he's currently fourth in series points, 44 points behind first, with three top-fives. The 2008 series' title runner-up is excited to race here again and has plans to return to I-55's Victory Lane Saturday night.

"We're looking forward to this weekend," said Meyers, a 27-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature winner. "We made some good moves about midway to late in the race (last year) and was able to get to the lead. You've got to have a good starting position, so we'll go into the weekend and try to take it one step at a time."

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has traditionally been one of the biggest draws on the I-55 schedule and this year should be no different, especially with the UMP Modifieds sharing the bill. Race fans will want to get there early to participate in the autograph session scheduled for 4:30. Drivers expected to attend are Danny "The Dude" Lasoski, Donny Schatz, Kerry Madsen, and Brian Ellenberger.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. on raceday, with Modified hot laps kicking off at 4 p.m. and heat races scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. The sprint cars take to the 1/3-mile, high-banked dirt track at 6:15 p.m. with qualifying at 6:45 p.m. World of Outlaws racing is scheduled to start at 7:30.

"It's a very, very exciting race and you're not going to find a sprint car race any more exciting anywhere in the country," Meyers said. "It's definitely worth changing your plans to make it out there this weekend."

Admission is $30 for general admission and $32 for reserved seats with kids 12 and under admitted free. For more information on this event and the other great races on the I-55 Raceway schedule, visit them on the Web at I55Raceway.com or call the track at 636-479-3219.
