MEADVILLE, PA (February 17) -- Sammy Swindell knows what it takes to be successful. The three-time Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series champion has proven this numerous times during his outstanding 27-year sprint car racing career. The key for Sammy is simple -- consistency. "You have to establish that baseline (motor, chassis, set up) you know will be successful," Swindell said recently. "Once you have a good understanding of what you know will work well, then you can begin to work on the little extras that give you the edge." The Cordova, TN, driver acknowledges, however, this is a never- ending process as "the little edges don't last long. If you find something that works a little better, it's not long until everybody else has figured it out as well." Consistency and the edge are what Swindell and his Channellock crew are looking to build on during the 2000 Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series season. Confident of continuing the momentum that put his team on a late season tear, Swindell is looking for championship results. "We've proven we're capable," Swindell said. "We're not satisfied with the fifth-place finish we posted in points in 1999 and won't be happy until we earn another championship trophy for Channellock." While Swindell's 1999 season was not what he had hoped for in the point standings, he did by most standards enjoy an outstanding season. Along with his top-five finish in the championship points chase, Sammy recorded eight "A" Feature victories, four Preliminary Feature victories, 39 top-five finishes, 48 in the top 10 and ranked second behind series champion Mark Kinser in feature laps led with 299. A highlight of the season came at I-80 Speedway in Nebraska where he was able to dominate his sponsor's Channellock Fall Classic. Sammy swept the 20-lap preliminary feature Friday and Saturday's 30-lap nationally televised championship feature. In doing so, he led every lap in each feature race. Swindell is eager to get off to a strong start when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series opens its 2000 season February 25th with a western swing that includes races at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA, Perris Auto Speedway in Lake Perris, CA and Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, NV. The #1 Channellock Stealth will be ready to show what building on consistency can do.
