Four Score: Schatz wins for the fourth time during the 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH

Barberville, FL-- February 8, 2009--Donny Schatz had one goal when he arrived at Volusia Speedway Park last week for the 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH and that was to pick up as many wins as he could for his Tony Stewart Racing team. He completed a stellar six night run at the half-mile on Sunday night, leading flag to flag in the 30-lap event for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series to earn his fourth win in six nights.

The $10,000 victory for three-time and defending World of Outlaws champion was the 90th of his career with the series. It was also his third with the series at Volusia Speedway Park, making him the winningest driver with the World of Outlaws at the half-mile.

"It was a good week for us," said Schatz. "My guys worked so hard over the winter. We can't be disappointed with four (wins) and we set our expectations high. They're on it and making these things roll and making the right changes. They are doing a phenomenal job."

Schatz lined up fourth in the Armor All J&J and went three wide into the second turn with Cale Conley who started on the pole along with veteran Fred Rahmer who led the field into turn one. By the time the trio entered turns three and four Schatz was in the lead and began to quickly pull away.

"I knew I had a good enough car that if I entered the corner right I could go through the middle," said the North Dakota native. "It's fun to have that and I figured no sense in waiting around, I might as well go. I pushed the envelope and had a good run on those guys through the middle and it got us up front right away."

Schatz set a blistering pace early on and was nearly in lapped traffic on the sixth lap when the only caution of the night flew for 2001 World of Outlaws champion Danny Lasoski. Schatz used a strong restart to pull away as Stevie Smith moved into second. He masterfully worked his way through traffic on the half-mile, as the final 24 laps of the race went non-stop. At the checkered flag, he won by nearly five seconds.

"The car definitely gets better as the race goes on and you can't ask for more than that," Schatz noted. "They are fun cars to drive and fun cars in traffic. That is what we thrive on, getting to traffic. That's what makes the difference between winning and losing the races. I was pushing myself to get through it and I got through it. That's what makes the racing fun."

Smith, who is eighth on the World of Outlaws all-time win list, finished second in the Zemco Speed Equipment Maxim. In the process of earning his second consecutive Top-Five finish he was able to secure the overall title for the 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH. In six starts over the last week at Volusia Speedway, he racked up five finishes of sixth or better. On Sunday night, he lined up seventh and within the first nine laps of the race worked his way around Kraig Kinser, Chad Kemenah, Danny Lasoski and Fred Rahmer to move into third. He then shadowed Cale Conley for seven laps before motoring into the runner-up spot exiting the fourth turn.

"We've had a good week, there is no question about that," said Smith. "I am very proud of these guys. I'm just happy to be a part of this and that' show I look at it. Hopefully we can carry that through the rest of the year."

Chad Kemenah picked up his best finish of the week coming home third in the Kantor Oil Company Maxim. The 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the year lined up third and fell back to fifth early in the race, before working his way past Kraig Kinser and then Cale Conley.

"We're pretty happy," said Kemenah. "We have a new crew chief with Bonzai (Bruns). I can't say enough for my car owner Jon Kantor for giving me the opportunity to come out here and do this. Everything seems to be going the right way pretty quick. Maybe this is a good sign to get off on the right foot."

Daryn Pittman wound up fourth in the Pete's Bridge Street Motors Maxim, after racing his way into the A-Feature by way of the B-Main. He began the night by turning the fastest lap in time trials.

Steve Kinser charged all the way from the back of the field to finish fifth in the Quaker State Maxim, after electing to start at the tail of the field with what his team believed was a problem with the engine.

Kraig Kinser was sixth in the Bass Pro Shops Maxim, with Terry McCarl behind him in the Big Game Treestands Maxim. Jason Meyers was eighth in the GLR Investments KPC. Cale Conley, who is just 16 years of age, won the Crane Cams Dash to earn the pole position for the main event and finished ninth aboard the Health Bridge Imaging Maxim. Craig Dollansky rounded out the Top-10 aboard the DirecTV Maxim.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action on Thursday, February 26 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
