Sammy Swindell continued his 2000 dominance at Lernerville Speedway last week by winning the 9th annual Don Martin Memorial Race. Swindell started seventh and passed Jeff Shepard with five laps remaining to claim the $33,000 first place prize. The Outlaws returned to Williams Grove Speedway last weekend and in Thursday's preliminary program, the "PA Posse" dominated. Lance Dewease won the 20-lap race and the seven of the top ten finishers were regular Central PA competitors. After Mother Nature washed out Friday's race, the Outlaws completed the program on Saturday. Swindell charged from fifth to second in the Channellock Dash and was right on the tail tank of Dewease during the early laps. Dewease's night would end when he crashed in turn four. Swindell restarted in the lead and was able to hold off Steve Kinser for the win.
This week the Outlaws will race on Friday night at Eldora Speedway. On Saturday, most of the regulars will remain to compete in the 8th Annual Historical Big One. The $100,000 check awarded to the winner qualifies this race as one of the season's biggest, and in the first seven Big One's, there have been no repeat winners. This year Jac Haudenschild, Kenny Jacobs, Steve Kinser, Mark Kinser and Dale Blaney are hoping to be the first driver to do so. If the trend holds from the past, current Outlaw drivers Sammy Swindell and Stevie Smith would likely have the best shot at winning.
