Tatnell Hopes to Return for Cornhusker Shootout
By Richard Day BARTLETT, TN (September 6) -- Brooke Tatnell, injured in a crash at the Eldora Clash in mid-July, says he expects to be back in the #6 Casey's General Stores Maxim for the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' Cornhusker Classic at I-80 Speedway. Tatnell hit the first-corner wall and flipped into World of Outlaws Gumout Series points leader Craig Dollansky early in the "A" Feature July 14th at Eldora Speedway. The impact bruised the femur in Dollansky's right leg, while Tatnell suffered two broken vertebrae, a fractured sternum and a broken scapula in his right shoulder. "I'm going back to the doctor (Dr. Terry Trammell in Indianapolis) Tuesday and start a training regime," Tatnell said from his shop Wednesday. "I hope to be back in the car when we race in Nebraska. I won't make it to Chico (the 47th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway, September 14-16). I still have to see the doctor and find out where I'm going physically so I'll know if I'm ready to race. I'm not going to push it. Hopefully, he'll give me clearance and we'll go from there." Tatnell attended the Amoco Knoxville Nationals (August 9-12), but only as a spectator. "I had a pretty good week at the Nationals," Tatnell said, "but, with this, the changes can be pretty dramatic. Walking around at Knoxville put me back again. It's like I took three steps forward and two steps back." Jimmy Carr, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series Rookie of the Year in 1991, has been in the #6 the last eight events after Brian Paulus drove it for seven. Tatnell recorded four top-10 finishes in 28 "A" Features, while Carr and Paulus have combined for two in the top 15. I-80 Speedway will host the Cornhusker Shootout September 21-23. Ironically, TNN televised the Eldora Clash when Tatnell suffered the injury and will welcome him back during its live coverage September 23rd. WoO
