WoO at Las Vegas preview

LAS VEGAS - Bonnie and Clyde, the James family, and the Earp Brothers were powerful forces in the old west. In their heyday, outlaws were chased by the law. Today's modern breed of family outlaws are pursued by thousands of racing fans.

On Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be the site of the Kinser family showdown at the Z-Max Silver State Shootout Pennzoil World of Outlaws season finale.

Steve Kinser, considered the greatest driver in Sprint Car racing history, is leading the points race by 226 points over cousin Mark Kinser, the 1996 and 1999 WoO champion.

Steve Kinser, a 15-time WoO champion, won both main events at LVMS' Fourth Annual Silver State Shootout in March. But will Steve Kinser be able to clinch another win at LVMS?

"I am looking forward to the event in Las Vegas," said Steve Kinser. "I like the track and I have had a lot of success there. I want to celebrate the championship and there is no better time than during the season finale."

Mark Kinser is no stranger to LVMS' victory lane, with five consecutive victories on the half-mile dirt oval in 1998 and 1999.

Judging from the Kinser family's past success at LVMS, this year's family showdown will provide spectators with two great nights of racing excitement.

The Kinser duo not only has to worry about each other but WoO driver Sammy Swindell. Swindell, a three-time WoO champion, is only seven points ahead of Mark Kinser. Swindell has nine victories in 59 starts, with 34 top-five and 44 top-10 finishes. Swindell also led all 20 laps during the 1999 season finale.

The Z-Max Silver State Shootout season finale begins Tuesday, October 31. Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets may be purchased by calling the speedway's ticket office at (800) 644-4444 or by visiting www.lvms.com or www.tickets.com. General admission is $25 for adults, $30 for reserved white and $35 for reserved blue. Seniors, military and children are $12 for general admission, $15 for reserved white and $17 for reserved blue. Nevada residents with I.D. will receive $5 off on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
