New World RX team to race Renault Clios in 2018
Multiple-time freeskiing world champion Guerlain Chicherit will head up a new rallycross team, which will field Renault Clio RS RXs in World RX next year.
Chicherit has partnered French engineer Stephane Orre to create the G-FORS team, which will also contest a full season in the European and French Championships alongside its partial WRX campaign.
Having raced a Clio Supercar in 2017 run by Orre’s Fors Performance concern, Chicherit will use the new G-FORS squad as a stepping to give aspiring World RX drivers the opportunity to gain experience.
“I've been working with Stephane and Fors Performance for the past year and have seen how committed and dedicated they are to rallycross,” said Chicherit.
“Supporting Stephane and Atte [Varsta, Team Manager] in creating G-FORS is a mutually beneficial opportunity to create a way to nurture talent and prepare them for World RX.
"G-FORS presents an exciting opportunity for drivers as a stepping stone to the World Championship and allows me to keep an eye on up and coming talent in the hope of finding future Champions.”
Varsta has recently worked in the European and World Championship with British squad Albatec Racing, and previously worked with Marklund Motorsport.
“I was very flattered when asked to take a role of such huge responsibility in this newly formed team,” said the Finn.
“With our collective experience, I trust we will produce winning drivers in a short time. I have worked with Stephane in rally and rallycross for the past four years and his presence in the team will be a vital part of our success.”
The new cars will be built at Fors’ Issoire base in Southern France. “We want to create one of the most successful teams in Rallycross,” said Orre. “We’re working hard on building extremely competitive Renault Clios and will push to produce the next European Rallycross Champion.”
G-FORS will be Chicherit's second rallycross outfit after GCK, which will race a pair of Prodrive-built Renault Megane RS RX Supercars.
