Armin Schwarz fought back from 48th position after the opening day to complete the Acropolis Rally of Greece in 18th place. Engine problems halted his progress after the second stage but he continued under SupeRally, picking up sufficient time penalties to deny him a possible points-scoring finish.

Janne Tuohino was unlucky on the opening real stage of the rally when he was unable to avoid hitting one of the events infamous rocks. The clutch and gearbox of the Škoda Fabia WRC 05 took the full impact and he was unable to start the next stage. As his engine was new for this rally the team elected not to continue under SupeRally and to save the unit for another event.

Jani Paasonen enjoyed a steady opening day of the event but was caught out by a tightening corner on the second leg, the Fabia WRC 05 rolling over a sheer drop. Although the crew was unhurt the car suffered damage to the roll cage and was unable to continue.

The four Mediterranean rough gravel events are now over but there is little respite for the team. Next weekend Jan Kopecký will contest the Bohemia Rally (July 1-3) in the teams home town of Mladá Boleslav.

Meanwhile the WRC crews head for South America and the Rally of Argentina (July 14-17) where Armin Schwarz and Jani Paasonen will be nominated for Manufacturers points.

Quotes:

Martin Muehlmeier (Head of Škoda Motorsport): "We had hoped that we would be able to show the improvements we have seen in testing on this event but this has not been the case. Once again we had problems early in the event that destroyed our chances. Todays stages have been quite similar to some of the ones we will use in Argentina so Armin has been testing some suspension settings and his times have been quite encouraging. I was also quite pleased with Janis performance on the first day after being away for several rallies. I still believe that we can get the results we need in the coming events but I also hope that our luck changes very quickly for the better as well."
