For Possum Bourne season 2000 has been next to perfect and Leg 1 of Telstra Rally Australia has given him even more reasons to smile, the Subaru driver currently lies in ninth outright amongst a stacked field of world class International drivers! Bourne had a trouble free day, the Impreza World Rally Car working flawlessly on the dry and slippery roads West of Perth, 8 stages in the Mundaring area.
"It's been a really good day, the plan was always to go pretty hard but to just see what happens around us and we've been pretty lucky so far," commented a enthusiastic Bourne at the day's final service. "The roads are slippery but their better than they've been in past years. It's very rough in places though, we took a few bumps on the sump guard and rear diff guard but nothing major."
For Neal Bates closing the gap to Bourne will be tough, the Corolla driver currently lies 1 minute 56.4 seconds adrift despite having no problems during the day. "The car feels fine to me, Neal is happy with the car so were not really sure," stated Coral Taylor. "Either were very slow, which we don't think we are, or Possum is just setting some awesome times. I tend to think the later!"
