Germany's SPORT1 to broadcast 2011-12 events

SPORT1 acquires exclusive rights to FIA
Spectacular race series kicks off in February on SPORT1

Ismaning, January 27, 2011 -- SPORT1 is further expanding its motorsport portfolio with the FIA World Rally Championship and from February 2011 will report live and in highlights from the most spectacular racing series in rally driving. The highlight of the SPORT1 coverage will be the "ADAC Rally Deutschland" to be held from 18 to 21 August in Trier.

From snow and ice in Sweden, to heat and dust in Greece, to slippery gravel in Argentina: The FIA World Rally Championship boasts a variety of racing conditions that no other type of motorsport can compete with. Each WRC round typically takes place over three days of action divided into "special stages" -- timed sections of 10 to 30 km -- starting in Rally Sweden (10th -- 13th February) SPORT1 will report from all 13 events of the 2011 season live and in highlights. The commentary team will be joined by new SPORT1 expert Armin Schwarz, multiple German and European Champion in rally driving.

SPORT1 will report comprehensively from every WRC event, beginning with an in-depth preview and followed by daily newsflashes and extensive highlights of each day's action. On Sundays, SPORT1 will also broadcast the new-to-2011 WRC "Power Stages", one from each round of the championship live and in highlights, and coverage will conclude with a detailed round-up of the whole race weekend. As well as rally greats such as Sebastien Loeb, the most successful rally driver of all time, Petter Solberg and Mikko Hirvonen, ex-Formula 1 driver Kimi Raikkonen will also line up in the 2011 FIA WRC.

The SPORT1 broadcasts of the WRC will be constantly expanded during the remaining contract period in 2011 and 2012. SPORT1 has acquired the rights to the FIA WRC in partnership with Rebel Media.

SPORT1's editor-in-chief Alexander Rosner: "With the broadcasting of the FIA World Rally Championship, we add another premium right to our motorsports portfolio. The FIA WRC is the most spectacular rally series. From February until November, our viewers can look forward to thrilling racing action on the most challenging roads in the world."

Simon Long, CEO of North One Sport added: "With BMW's MINI team making their WRC debut this year and ADAC Rallye Deutschland to look forward to in August there's plenty for motorsport fans in Germany to get excited about. I'm delighted that thanks to this SPORT1 deal, they'll be able to keep up to speed with an unprecedented amount of television coverage."

The exact broadcast times will be announced separately shortly before the first broadcast.
