Ogier takes a 33.8s lead into the final day, having won the majority of Saturday’s stages and rammed his advantage home on the 28-mile Panzerplatte stage.

“A perfect day for us – really happy,” he said. “We made most of the difference in Panzerplatte – that was the key.

“We had the right set-up and tyre management. I had a really good feeling.”

Latvala won three stages today, but has admitted that his hope of victory have passed.

“It's been a sensible drive from me today,” he said. “I'm not trying to push too hard. We want to end it like this."

Andreas Mikkelsen retained a distant third in another VW Polo, ahead of the Hyundais of Dani Sordo and Thierry Neuville.

The closest battle on the leaderboard is Elfyn Evans (Ford) and Citroen’s Mads Ostberg, who will go into the final day’s four stages just 3.2s apart over sixth.
