Stadium suprises - Swift, Suzukis and snow!

The Suzuki World Contest will be held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Saturday 1 December before the action-packed 75th anniversary entertainment and indoor special stage of Wales Rally GB. This is in addition to a spectacular stunt driving display from Auto Test champion Paul Swift and a tribute to the late Richard Burns and Colin McRae - all before drivers enter the stadium to compete through a curtain of snow!

Eight Suzuki drivers from six nations will thrill spectators in their high powered Swift Sport group N cars, adding even more excitement to the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship, running from 29 November - 2 December. The Suzuki World Contest held from 5 - 6pm will bring Suzuki rally heroes from all over the world together with four cars completing a lap at a time, before the next four follow.

Immediately following the Suzuki World Contest will be a spectacular demonstration of driving skill featuring TV stunt driver Paul Swift and his highly acclaimed driving team in Ford Fiestas. Entitled 'The Millennium Job' and based loosely on the theme of the recently re-made film 'The Italian Job', it promises colour, noise and an all-action 40 minute show that will keep spectators glued to their seats.

In the last few minutes before the first World Rally Cars leap onto the stadium floor, there will be a tribute to the late Richard Burns and Colin McRae, both former British and World Rally Champions. For the first time their Championship winning cars - two Legacys and two Imprezas will appear, together, in public and be driven around the Millennium Stadium Special Stage.

Colin's car will make its first appearance at Wales Rally GB on Thursday evening at the Ceremonial Start where Jimmy McRae, five time British Rally Champion will drive his late son's car over the start ramp.

To give an authentic winter-rally look to the Cardiff stage - the world's first indoor special stage - three artificial snow-making machines will provide falling snow in the area around the 'Dragon's Mouth' - where the rally cars literally 'fly' into the stadium. In addition the perimeter of the stadium floor will be dressed to look like a 'snowbank'.

"This year's Millennium Stadium event is set to be the best yet and will provide something for everyone," explained Andrew Coe, chief executive of Wales Rally GB. "We are really excited about the schedule of entertainment and of course the stage itself will be spectacular. With the stadium roof closed, lights low, headlights beaming and snow falling the atmosphere will be incredible."
