Oliveira celebrates his first WRC season at the finish podium in Cardiff
The BWRT Crew completes Wales Rally GB earning Manufacturer points for the BRWT
The BWRT driver Daniel Oliveira finished his first FIA World Rally Championship season completing the fourth and final day of action in Wales Rally GB. He earned four Manufacturer points in his final outing on board the MINI John Cooper Works WRC this year and rounded off a good performance today to climb from 54th to 36th position overall.
Daniel and his Argentinean co-driver Fernando Mussano were able to celebrate after finishing a really demanding rally on the finish podium in Cardiff ending to what it turned out to be a steep learning curve for the young Brazilian driver in his first full season in the most important rally championship in the world.
The final day of Wales Rally GB and this 2011 FIA World Rally Championship season got underway in the Brecon Beacon mountains and then moved to Epynt military ranges using a mix of tarmac and gravel roads very close from Builth Wells service park.
Action started with a short three-kilometre tarmac section as part of SS18 Halfway (14.93km) whereas SS19 Crychan (22.73km) kicked off in the forest and then travelled over 9 kilometres of asphalt.
Oliveira and Mussano re-joined the competition after yesterday’s problems and set a good pace to leave behind the first two stages as well as the Power Stage rehearsal on SS20 with no major troubles.
Time schedule was very compact today, so there only was a relatively short time gap before the cars returned to the road for their second run after the mid-morning service at Builth Wells.
Daniel enjoyed a safe and clean run in the final loop of stages and saw the season off by tackling the last 4,36 kilometres of the Monument Power Stage.
Daniel’s word: “It was a difficult rally but we finished it although we had a broken driveshaft on SS15. We had some good and bad moments on this event. We need to remember that we don't have so much experience and we can build it up. I’m pretty satisfied with my first season and it felt good to see the year off in the finish podium and earning more Manufacturer points for the BWRT. Next year we will grow stronger. I would like to thank my family and friends for their unconditional support.I would also like to thank the team, they worked very hard throughout the year. I believe it was a hard learning year for us all, and we all put our best effort into this project.”.
