Injured Guintoli to miss Donington, aims for Misano return
Former World Superbike champion Sylvain Guintoli has confirmed he will miss the upcoming Donington Park round following his crash at Imola.
The Frenchman, who joined Yamaha's newly-formed WSBK team this year, suffered a violent high-side during qualifying at Imola in April.
Alongside contusions, Guintoli also suffered a fractured left ankle, which had screws inserted in it.
He was forced to miss last weekend's round at Sepang and, with no replacement, Alex Lowes represented the team as one-bike entry.
Guintoli will now also miss the next round, taking place next weekend at Donington Park, but plans to return for the subsequent event at Misano.
"Unfortunately the recovery is going to take me a little longer than I had originally hoped, but the aim is to be fit in time for Misano," said Guintoli.
"It was such a massive crash that the landing took more out of me than first realised but it's all on the mend now!
"They have inserted some screws into my ankle - which is a shame because I have been metal free for quite a while.
"But the surgery was completely successful and it's just about recovery time and working to get myself back to 100 percent fitness again."
Yamaha has yet to confirm if Lowes will be its only rider next time around as well, or if the team will have a second rider added to the roster.
