Silverstone: Michelin race summary

Edwards and Bayliss give Michelin wins at wet Silverstone.

World Superbike rivals Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) and Colin Edwards (Castrol Honda - Michelin) continue tussle with a win each at rain-soaked Silverstone sixth round in Great Britain and Ruben Xaus (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) joins the pairing for an all-Michelin podium in race two.

Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) and Colin Edwards (Castrol Honda - Michelin) won a race each in Sunday's sixth round of the World Superbike championship at Silverstone, GB on a wet, incident-packed day.

Edwards, the pre-race favourite after putting Michelin's wet weather tyres to good use to secure wins last year, was in confident mood as he tailed Bayliss in the early stages of the opening race.

Bayliss crashed on the third lap, remounted and moved up to eighth then crashed again. The determined Australian then remounted once more to cross the finish line in fifth place.

Edwards took a comfortable victory, controlling the 20-lap race to take his second race win of the year. Aprilia's Noriyuki Haga crossed the line second with Neil Hodgson third to send the 61,000 partisan fans wild.

Drama surrounded the start of the second race as Edwards pulled into the pitlane after the sighting lap, complaining of a misfire. He switched to his spare machine but then crashed on the warm-up lap.

Just like Bayliss in race one, Edwards remounted, joined the grid then blitzed his way into the lead as the 28-strong field of riders powered into the first corner.

Edwards and Bayliss then did battle at the head of the race and it was Bayliss who took his ninth win from 12 races while Edwards took second to secure his 11th podium finish from 12 races.

Ruben Xaus (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) maintained third place to secure an all-Michelin podium for the second race of the day -- with the only three Michelin supported rides in the championship.

The day's action left Michelin maintaining first and second places in the championship as Edwards reduced Bayliss's lead to 29 points with seven rounds, 14 races remaining.
