Ehrlacher, Michigami lose front row positions for WTCC opener
Yann Ehrlacher and Ryo Michigami have lost first and second place on the grid of the first WTCC race of 2017 in Marrakesh, handing pole position to Tom Coronel.
RC Lada driver Ehrlacher was in 10th in qualifying, and was set to start his first career race in WTCC from pole position due to the reverse-grid rule system.
However, it soon emerged that he missed a call to proceed to the FIA scrutineers at the end of qualifying, which saw all his times deleted.
Honda driver Michigami, who was one position ahead of Ehrlacher, was set to start the opening race alongside the Frenchman, but was also punished by the stewards for the same offence.
The exclusion of the two drivers has promoted Esteban Guerrieri and Coronel to ninth and tenth in the qualifying order, the two Chevrolet drivers inheriting the two spots on the front row.
Fifth-placed Mehdi Bennani was also under investigation for setting his best time under yellows, but the local driver escaped a penalty.
