Huff: I'd like to stay in WTCC until I retire

Honda's Rob Huff, who has been racing in the WTCC since 2005, says he would like to remain in the championship until the end of his driving career.

Huff, who was 2012 World Touring Car Champion with Chevrolet, has also previously raced with the Lada works squad and privateer team Munnich, and his first year for Honda is his 12th overall in the championship.

But with Citroen leaving after 2016 and Honda and Lada yet to confirm their 2017 plans, many factory drivers are left uncertain about being able to stay in the series next year:

Asked about whether he feels his future is secure, Huff told Motorsport.com: "I've lived year by year in this championship since day one.

"Of course, the championship... motorsport in general still isn't in the most amazing place, it's building and building back. The addition of Volvo this year means it's the strongest the WTCC has been for a long while.

"Okay, we're losing Citroen, but ultimately, the organisers of the championship, they need to sit down and analyse what's happening, what they need to do, where they need to be.

"We don't steer the championship, we are part of the championship and we enjoy being here. I've done WTCC for longer in my life than I've done anything other than breathe - so I'd hate for me not to be here. I'd like to see this championship all the way through until I retire."

Honda switch the right decision

Honda's Morocco exclusion, which cost Huff a race win, coupled with Lada's series-best weekend in Moscow, mean that the Russian marque's lead driver Nicky Catsburg now heads all three Hondas in the drivers' standings.

However, Huff, who had left Lada for Honda in the off-season, remains absolutely certain that was the right choice.

"Up until [the exclusion] I was P3 in the championship and very close to P2 so, yeah. We can look where the Ladas are in the championship and, of course, I made the right switch.

"This weekend, obviously, the Lada was quicker, in the wet. But I would never go back on my decision, I very much made the right decision - I even spoke to Viktor [Shapovalov] and Lada about it before I made my decision and they were fully aware of it and, to a point, encouraged me to come here

"I feel myself, Norbi [Michelisz] and Tiago [Monteiro] get on very well, we make a fantastic driver line-up, we work very well together."

Regarding 2017 plans, he said: "I have no reason to doubt that I will be here, hopefully with Honda and hopefully with Tiago and Norbi. And hopefully we'll continue in the strong manner that we've started this year."
