It’s the fourth time the African street circuit, sited on the southern outskirts of Marrakech, has hosted the series and whilst it is widely considered to be an exciting challenge amongst the pack, the stats make interesting reading for those competing in the RML designed and built Chevrolet Cruzes.

Former RML team-mates Rob Huff, Alain Menu and Nicola Larini all savoured the champagne on this precision-demanding track and current championship leader, Yvan Muller took race two victory here last year and will be looking to further add to his race win portfolio.

Yvan Muller: “Monza provided the perfect start to the season – we came away with two victories and the championship lead. With very little winter testing it was more than we’d expected going into the first race. That was a great boost for the whole team and we’re now heading to Marrakech with hope and optimism for more solid results.

“It is a fascinating place and the atmosphere is incredible. The WTCC is well supported out there and usually this track throws out some entertaining racing for the spectators.

“History tells us the Cruze should run well here so I am definitely targeting top points.”

For new RML team mate, Tom Chilton, this will be the young Briton’s second visit to the ancient Red City and with his WTCC personal best of second place already banked, the Aon-backed driver is looking ahead to a promising weekend.

Tom Chilton: “I took my best result here in 2012, finishing 7th in the first race so this place holds some good memories (and hopefully luck) for me. I really enjoy competing here; there is a constant element of danger with the concrete walls ready to ‘catch’ you and in the past we’ve seen just how costly slight mistakes can be – it’s all about being quick, clean and committed.”

“It’s a fun challenge, with the two fast straights linked by tricky chicanes and the slow hairpin – I can’t wait to get out in the Cruze again. My car should be well suited here and now I have my first podium under my belt, I’m ready for more!”
