Charlie Henry Joins the Faculty of Indiana State University

Farmington Hills, Michigan -- Charlie Henry, president of Challenger Consulting, has joined the faculty of Indiana State University, in Terre Haute, Indiana. As an Adjunct Professor, Henry will teach A Survey of Motorsports and History of the Automotive Industry: the First 100 Years. Both are part of the Motorsports Management minor offered by the Industrial and Mechanical Technology Department. Challenger Consulting services are not expected to be interrupted.

"My family's interest in antique cars was, to put it mildly, intense," said Henry. "My father was Curator of Transportation Exhibits at the Henry Ford Museum. He constantly lectured, wrote books and attended car meets. I absorbed a lot of his interests and knowledge. However," Henry continued, "I was seduced by the muscle cars of the 1960s and I've been having an affair with motorsports ever since. This opportunity at Indiana State is a great way to share my experiences with a new generation. It's going to be a tough job, though. On just my second day, I had to chaperone a field trip to Don Schumacher's race shop."

Dr. Randell Peters, who brought Henry to Indiana State University, had this to say, "We are very pleased that Charlie chose to join us and bring his unique perspectives on automotive history and motorsports. His extensive personal network enriched our program and race team well before classes even started. His teaching and presenting careers will be an asset to the university."

The Motorsports Management minor is open to students in any ISU major. Team Sycamore Racing, though not part of the minor program, is also open to all. The team's NHRA Super Comp dragster is managed, crewed and driven exclusively by students, who gain hands-on experience in how their majors apply to motorsports. The team's first full NHRA season resulted in Best Appearing Team and Best Engineered Car awards -- at the same race. At the U.S. Nationals, NHRA's biggest race, Team Sycamore advanced to the second round of eliminations. These are significant accomplishments for a young race team.

Indiana State University is recognized as a source of leaders for the motorsports industry. ISU graduates have the degrees necessary to conduct business. Through the Motorsports Management minor, they have the experience necessary to lead the business of motorsports.
