Heavy rain on Race 2 brings bitter news for Zeta Corse at Motorland Aragon

After two days of hard racing Zeta Corse leaves the Motorland Aragon track knowing that results didn't match expectations and the performance potential of both the team and their drivers, Mihai Marinescu and Matheo Tuscher.

Tuscher had closed qualifying in P17, a good result for a rookie, but at the first green flag lap after a Safety-Car start he was pushed very wide at Turn 1, spinning and losing ground. Even with a damaged car the 16 year-old Swiss kept going but with just one lap to go he was a victim of aquaplaning and spun, ending in the gravel.

The weekend proved very hard for Zeta Corse but this just gives the team more motivation to get back into the points, as they did in the Monza opening round. The chance to do it will come in four weeks time in Monaco, the round held as a support to the F1 weekend.

Mihai Marinescu (Q2 - 20; R2 - DNF): "I had another bad day, I hope we'll forget this weekend soon. The track conditions were incredibly difficult right from the morning, as the three red flags in Qualifying showed clearly.

Given the slippery track and the disrupted session I wasn't too disappointed with a P20 performance, I knew that my potential was much better than that and that the race was going to be long.

As I had foreseen I did very well in the first few laps and made up some ground, until I started fighting with Jaafar. I passed him cleanly at the hairpin but he came back and hit me, leaving me stranded on the track with a damaged car. I really look forward to Monaco, I want to forget Alcaniz as soon as possible".

Matheo Tuscher (Q2 - 17; R2 - P22): "I was a bit worried before the start of the race because the track was really flooded, but right from the formation lap I realized that the car was really good, I was driving with confidence despite the conditions.

Unluckily after the Safety-Car left the track I was immediately attacked by Cunha, who went really wide at Turn 1 and made contact with my left tyres, causing some damage and sending me into a spin.

Despite that I kept driving and made good progress, until rain fell even harder and my car started bottoming on water. With aquaplaning it became hard to control and before the end of the race I did another mistake. I still gathered some good mileage, so it wasn't too bad in the end".
