The TVS-UAM Asia Motocross Championships Series 2000 was held for the first time in India at Bangalore on 16th & 17th December.2000 at Morzaria Grounds, near Bangalore Dairy circle.

The standardized track was constructed as per international specifications with a length of 1.1kms and a width of 5 metres. The track incorporated many obstacles, which the riders had to clear table tops, camel humps besides a number of hairpin bends and whoops-e-doos! The track dimensions, timers as well as the obstacles were as per International specifications. Even the type of sand used had to confirm to standardized requirements. Other International Regulations regarding fire tenders, ambulances and other precautions as per the safety norms of the FIM were strictly adhered to.

This is a very prestigious International Motorsport Event that is recognized by the apex world body in Motorsports - the FIM (Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme - Suisse). This world body governs all forms of two wheeler sports around the world. Its members include various National Federations (FMN's), of which our Federation, the FMSCI is the official FMN for India. It has laid down certain goals and objectives to promote the smooth functioning of motorsport events around the world.

A constituent of the FIM - the Asian body - the UAM (Asian Motorcycle Union) is a non-profit Asian association that organises motocross and road racing championships in Asia every year. Its members are composed of FIM affiliated Federations in the Asian Continent. Its objectives include the development and promotion of all forms of motorcycling in Asia. The UAM also aims to work towards cooperation and friendship between members and to advance the goals, objectives and the strategic development of the FIM. The UAM website is: www.uamasia.com.

The Asia Motocross 2000 Championships was held in 5 rounds in different countries in this year:

1.) Japan      organised by their Federation the MFJ     on 5-6 Aug
2.) Indonesia  organised by their Federation the IMI     on 4-5 Nov
3.) China      organised by their Federation the CMSA    on 2-3 Dec
4.) Thailand   organised by their Federation the FMSCT   9-10 Dec
5.) INDIA      organised by their Federation the FMSCI   16-17 Dec

Thus for the first time in the history of Indian Motorsports, the final round of the TVS-UAM Asia Championship Series Motocross 2000 has been awarded to Bangalore - India! The main sponsor of this international event is the TVS -SUZUKI Ltd., who are aggressively promoting their new bike-Fiero.

The event in Bangalore will be conducted under the banner of the highest motorsporting Authority for two-wheelers in India, the Indian body - FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) and also the local Body the KMSC (Karnataka Motor Sports Club). Please note that the President of the Indian body - the FMSCI, Mr. K.D. MADAN is also the Vice-President of the UAM (Asian Motorcycle Union).

The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) was founded in 1971 and is affiliated to the FIM - the world body of Motorsports. This National Federation also aims for the promotion and regulation of 2-wheeler motorsports in India. The FMSCI constitutes of more than 53 member clubs spread all over the country.

KMSC (Karnataka Motor Sports Club) was started in 1949 as Bangalore Motor Sports club. In 1974 it was renamed as Karnataka Motor Sports Club after it started spreading its activities throughout Karnataka. The KMSC conducts motor sporting events like Rallies, Track races, Treasure Hunt, Hill Climb, Drag meets, Autocross, Motocross etc. It also conducts a major National Status- the Karnataka-1000 which is the most prestigious and best rally by far in the country.

Bangaloreans were treated to an action-filled motocross event of international standards, where the skill of man and machine will be tested to the limits.
