AASCO Motorsports Announces Rolex Series Championship Effort

ANAHEIM, Calif., December 15, 2003 - Multi-time championship winning entrant AASCO Motorsports announced its return to professional sports car racing today at its Anaheim, California shop. The team, owned and managed by legendary racer Dennis Aase, will compete with two 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in the 2004 Grand American Road Racing Association (Grand-Am) Rolex Series' Super Grand Sport (SGS) class. The team will field Nos. 16 and 17 at each of the 12 stops on the championship trail for the new production-based class starting at the world-renowned Rolex 24 at Daytona (International Speedway) in January. The lead Hoosier-tired Porsche will be driven by two of the sport's premier road racers; Craig Stanton, of Long Beach, California, and David Murry of Cumming, Georgia. The second entry will be driven by Porsche Club standouts Mark Webber, Gary Becker, Joe Kunz and Pat Flanagan. Aase has gone to great lengths to acquire the best in equipment and personnel for the assault on the SGS championship. Key team members include Randy Aase, Thomas Blam as race strategist, Joe Hullett as data acquisition specialist and race engineer Harry Haggard.

"One of the things that makes me the happiest about this program is that we have really intelligent drivers in Craig and David that have experience going more than three hours," enthused Aase. "We would like to be able to use the talent that we have to make up for any deficits that we have built into the rules. For the second car, between Mark Webber and Joe Kunz, those guys can run with almost anyone. They are both very fast. Both cars will be treated equally and both will be capable of winning. I have been very encouraged with the way that Porsche is approaching this program. We are getting wonderful support from Porsche. Our first tests with the '04 cars went extremely well and we are all very enthusiastic about getting to Daytona."

"I am thrilled to be a part of this," remarked lead driver Stanton. "Dennis was one of my heroes as a kid and I'm excited about racing in the Grand-Am with AASCO again. He has really put together the 'A-list' team here. David Murry has been a friend of mine for years and our talents really seem to mesh well together. The entire program is top-notch. I think Dennis has done an awesome job of getting guys that are the best and can work well together. I can't wait to get the season started. This is my best opportunity in Grand-Am. This is a championship caliber team."

AASCO first came to the forefront of motorsports in 1995 winning the IMSA GT-3 title and with success as the Toyota factory effort in the Firehawk series. However, Dennis Aase's involvement in racing covers 30 years and includes multiple victories, championships and records set as a driver that stand to this day. Since the late '90s, AASCO has prepared cars for the Rolex Series first with EMC AASCO Racing and then with BoDuck AASCO Racing. The team is based in Anaheim, Calif. where it enjoys complete chassis and body fabrication facilities as well as a state of the art engine building shop overseen by Randy Aase.
