Spirit of Daytona Qualifying Race

Larry Oberto experienced his first qualifying race of the Grand American Rolex Series this Saturday at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Oberto was able to stay out of trouble and finished in a qualifying position of 24th overall. On Sunday's race co-driver Doug Goad will power the Pontiac Crawford first for the duo. With Goad, co-owner/driver of the No. 09 Daytona Prototype, away from the racetrack it was up to Larry Oberto to perfect the Oh-Boy Oberto Beef Jerky sponsored DP for the race on Sunday afternoon.

Oberto shared the 09 DP's seat with SDR Grand Am Cup driver, Marc-Antoine Camirand. Oberto and Camirand were able to collaborate their race knowledge and perfect the DP's setup. During Friday's practice session the duo were able to turn competitive lap times until Oberto experienced trouble with the engine.

The team was able to fix the problem before more damage occurred, but they had to replace the engine. During Saturday's practice and qualifying session the team was testing the new engine. Oberto experienced plenty of seat time during the race weekend and is confident that Goad will be able to catch up on track knowledge. Goad has had many on track battles at the Laguna Seca raceway during his racing in the Firehawk Series. He had many wins and many career highlights in the series.

"There are a few changes that need to be done to the car and I know that if it works out the car will be great for tomorrow. Doug will catch up fast and we will be ready for the race," said Oberto.
