German sports car pilot Stefan Mucke almost hit the podium being on position four at the FIA GT1 World Championship at Spa in the Qualifying Race
Berlin/Spa-Francorchamps (rol/ot) German sports car pilot Stefan Mucke almost hit the podium on Friday (30th of July) at the prelude of the fifth season event of the FIA GT1 World Championship being on position four in the one hour Qualifying Race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). The Aston Martin works driver from Berlin, that is sharing the cockpit of the DBR9 for the Team Young Driver AMR (Paderborn/Copenhagen) with his Dane driver colleague Christoffer Nygaard, started from position eight on the Ardennes track into the 9th season run. Winners of this race have been the Netherlands Xavier Maassen and Jos Menten, which started into this race from pole position in a Corvette Z06.
"I am very satisfied with this placing. It gives us hope to get some points in the race on Saturday", tells the 28 year old Mucke. Right after the start he could catch up four positions in the run on Friday afternoon and after half an hour he assigned the Aston Martin DBR9 to his team colleague Christopher Nygaard being on position three. "At the driver's change in the pit lane we lost one position again because a Corvette just has been faster than us at the pit-stop", explains the Berlin. "At least we could secure the 4th place without any problems until the finish line. That gives us courage for the Championship Race."
