Second round of new Superkarts! USA regional to battle on June 19-20

LOVELAND, CO (June 17, 2010) - The second round of the Superkarts! USA Mountain Region is just around the corner - June 19-20 - with the new series for the Colorado region and surrounding area making its debut in early May. The first event went off as a great success on the temporary circuit outside the Pikes Peak International Raceway. Building on the momentum from that event and the growing popularity of the Superkarts! USA organization across the country, the series staff is now focused on the upcoming event in Dacono, Colorado.

When the original 2010 schedule was released earlier in the season, the second round was to be contested at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. Due to unforeseen circumstances discovered after the SKUSA Mountain Region opener, the June event was forced to be relocated. The IMI Motorsports Complex was able to adjust their facility schedule to accommodate the series event. The 9/10-mile course underwent repair to some sections of the track surface recently, with many who have tested at the facility already speaking highly about the changes. The layout is a long and flowing course, opened in the early 1990s, and is a perfect style for shifterkart racing.

The opening round of the new SKUSA Mountain Region witnessed rookie James Michael Sullivan leading the way in the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto category, with Masters driver Mike McDonough taking the victory in S4 Masters Stock Moto. The largest class of the weekend was the S5 Junior Stock Moto category, with Christian Schureman edging out Austin Schimmel for the win - while Doug Miller outran son Drew Miller in the S3 Novice Stock Moto category. In TaG competition, Sabre Cook took the victory in Senior, with Rodney Ebersole and Tate Holleran earning the wins in Master and Cadet. In the local option Cadet category, Lucas Hannabass swept the day's action.

"Pre-registration has been very strong over the past couple of weeks," stated SKUSA Mountain Region race director Curt Kistler. "There will be additional S2 drivers showing up for round two that were unable to attend the season opener at Pikes Peak along with a number of new local shifter pilots running S3 for the first time. The weather looks to be perfect racing weather both days. I can't wait for the event to begin."

The second round at IMI will follow a similar format from round one, kicking off on Saturday, June 19 with a full day of practice. From sun-up to sun-down, 10-minute sessions will take place for the categories competing on the weekend. Following the on-track action, the series will host a SKUSA-style tri-tip barbeque with free beverages, thanks to the series supporters. Sunday will be race day with practice, qualifying, two heat races and the main event for the eight categories competing. The categories offered will mirror that of the Superkarts! USA class structure; S2 (Semi-Pro Stock Moto), S3 (Novice Stock Moto), S4 (Masters Stock Moto), S5 (Junior Stock Moto), TaG Senior, TaG Master, TaG Junior, and a local option Cadet category. On a tech update in the S5 category, competitors will be able to run an air filter in place of the air box for the second round.
