Daytona - Derrick Kelley fastest in day one of testing

Daytona B each, FL (January 14, 2001) Derrick Kelly of Lakeland, Florida posted a lap of 55.804 seconds for a speed of 161.279 mph the fastest of the first day of Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring winter testing at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for the AC DELCO "200" presented by Discount Auto Parts to be held on Saturday, February 10, 2001.

Other top speeds were posted by Bobby Hill at 56.314 seconds, a speed of 159.818 mph; Mickey York at 56.338 seconds, 159.750 mph; Angie Wilson at 56.366 seconds, 159.671; and rounding out the top five was Justin Hobgood at 56.382 seconds, 159.625 mph.

Kelly is no stranger to the high-banks of Daytona International Speedway, this being his fourth career start at the World Center of Racing. For 2001 Kelley has joined forces with Crenshaw Motorsports and Discount Aut o Parts also based in Lakeland, Fl. "Today was my first time ever in a car prepared by this team, said Kelley. To unload the car and post the fastest laps of the day is a real testimony to the experience this team has in putting together a winning combination."

Bobby Hill from Jefferson, GA in his Bishop Farms Racing prepared Pontiac Sunfire is preparing to make his first career start in a Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring race car. Hill has previous experience having raced i n the Southern All Stars Super Late Model Series. "The largest track I had been on prior to today was 5/8 mile in length. To come here is awesome. This plac e is big and fast, you have to respect it but not allow it to intimidate you. To be fast you have to stand on the gas and not lift going into the corners. It is like a roller coaster ride. Going into the corners the G-forces press you down into the seat and hard to the side. It is such a different sensation than I was accustomed to on shorter tracks."
