FMS: Mike Golic named Grand Marshall of CARQUEST Spring Sizzler

Stafford Springs, CT (April 18, 2000)- Mike Golic, NFL analyst for ESPN and ESPN2 and co-host of ESPN Radio's ESPN Morning Show, has been named grand marshal of the April 29th and 30th CARQUEST Auto Parts Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Golic's visit to Stafford Motor Speedway's CARQUEST Spring Sizzler is in conjunction with "Golic 2000", an underground effort to promote Golic towards the vacant broadcast position on ABC's Monday Night Football. Golic's visit to Stafford Motor Speedway will mark the first Connecticut stop for the "Golic 2000" campaign.

"I'm really excited to visit Stafford Motor Speedway and serve as grand marshal," said Golic, who co-hosts ESPN Radio's Morning Show with Mike Greenberg. "I've heard a lot about Stafford Motor Speedway and to visit the track on opening day is terrific."

Golic joined ESPN in 1995 as an NFL reporter/analyst for Sunday NFL Countdown, and in 1998 become an original analyst for NFL 2Night, the five-night per week League news and information program on ESPN2. Golic is a nine-year NFL veteran, playing defensive tackle for the Houston Oilers, Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins. He is a 1985 graduate of Notre Dame where he was captain and linebacker during his senior season.

As grand marshal, Golic will exclaim the most famous words in motorsports, "Gentlemen Start Your Engines", just minutes prior to the 3:00PM start of the CARQUEST Spring Sizzler.

Stafford Motor Speedway's CARQUEST Spring Sizzler, April 29th and 30th, features a 200-lap NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series competing in their most tradition-laden event. This year's CARQUEST Spring Sizzler will also be the season-opening event for NASCAR's only open-wheeled Touring Series.

In addition, the CARQUEST Spring Sizzler will offer season-opening events for Stafford Motor Speedway's NASCAR Weekly Racing Series SK Modified, ProStock, Late Model and Dare Stock divisions. Also joining the card will be the New England Legends Tour.
